After experimenting with various designs of bamboo door beads, this one stood out as the best looking and most functional style that I tried. The rings prevent the tubes from piling up like a runaway train, yet the tubes still have a range of motion on the string, and collectively each strand has a nice sort of whipping motion, akin to the twitching of... a Tiger Tail! Once several Tiger Tails are put close together, the motion or walking through them creates pleasant woody natural tones, similar to bamboo wind chimes.

Each individual piece of bamboo was harvested from our chemical and pesticide free groves in Ohio and heat treated using various pyrographic techniques and strung together on a single strand of braided polypropylene twine. The string is tied through the bottom ring, heat sealed, threaded through a tube, looped around a ring, then repeated until the string is tied and heat sealed around an 1.25" diameter key ring at the top. My wingspan is the rough draft for the length of these Tiger Tails, which turns out to be a finished length of around 5'3", give or take a few inches. The diameters of the bamboo vary as do the designs. These are like snowflakes, never two alike!

These sweet beaded strings are durable with lots of possibilities. I like to simply run a line of small wood screws (with decent heads to keep the rings from just sliding off the screw) every one to two inches or so along the top frame of a door or walk through area. Then I can experiment with different arrangements. Spread them out, group them together, try different size gaps, etc. In our house leaving gaps to be able to easily part while walking with a plate of food, or while carrying a dog, are the way to go.

A less invasive approach than screws might be to try Command Adhesive hooks. Even a tension closet rod will do the trick if you don't mind sliding them around a bit. We find the length to work great, long enough in doorways to readily engage with us humans, while not interfering too much with our pets, or cleaning the floors. A pair of Tiger Tails a few inches apart produce some noise as the whip around, and 12 or so Tiger Tails is the best balance of form and function in most doorways. We even found 12 to work okay across a busy 45 inch passage, functioning as intended without being intrusive.

I've dropped ours on the floor, even had the board crash while getting pictures, and they seem to hold up remarkable well. One note however, anytime they aren't hanging against gravity, it seems sometimes things shift, and gaps might appear below rings. Large gaps increase the tangle potential. If you notice gaps below the rings, start lower if needed, and grabbing the string coming up from the bottom through the ring, pull out, shifting the string around the ring and easing the ring down snug against the tube below. Everything above will shift, so rings higher up will likely need a bit of adjusting. It takes seconds, and frankly is satisfying to do!
