Harvested from our chemical and pesticide free grove in Ohio, USA, these unusual all natural bamboo chopstick sets are carefully hand-crafted and include a fish-mouth elevated bamboo stick rest. One-of-a-kind functional and artistic tableware, out of just some American grass!
After splitting cured bamboo to a rough shape, it is slightly refined with a power sander, then three rounds of hand sanding to ensure smooth working utensils. I then heat treat with open flame the exterior surface and burnish the entire piece with food grade butcher's block conditioner. No two are exactly alike and though they are not perfectly straight, round or identical diameters, they feel great in the hand, much better than perfectly machined round ones! Each set is carefully paired and will be about 8 1/2 inches long.
The rest, also made from natural bamboo, has what's known as a "fish-mouth" cut, further enhanced here with various pyrograhic techniques that give a bit more life to the presentation. It is 3 inches tall, made to hold a pair of chopsticks completely off the table. Sticks could also be leaned or rested in the mouth with the butts on the table, or the fish can lay down and be used as a traditional stick rest. Though I prefer the elevated mode right in front of my plate or bowl, easy grab, where they don't get knocked around, and they never touch the table. It becomes a bit of a zen thing, smoothly grabbing the chopsticks and replacing them without the need to adjust the grip, bonus for not disturbing the fish!
