We have used the "whistle for each other" method of communication to find each other in stores and crowded places now for many years. I recently made a toot-toot whistle for someone who wished to communicate in this fashion, but alas could not actually whistle!

Made from organic bamboo grown in the USA, these whistles measure about 3-ish inches long produce an assortment of low-key "toots" when blown across the opening ala a jug/ pop bottle whistle, perfect for communication without alarming the management! I heat each one with an open flame, and while hot, burnish by hand a soft cloth soaked in orange oil and wax. This process brings the natural bamboo oils to the surface which harden into a protective layer and helps protect and aid in durability, as well as give it some shine and visual texture. I find the best maintenance for these is constant carrying and use.

I make sure they are consistently easy to get a whistle from, though that's no guarantee you'll be able to! I would be really surprised however, if it remained noiseless after a bit of practice. The tones may differ between whistles.
